Cleaning My Stepson’s Microfiber Futon

“Thank goodness for Pinterest!” is all I can say.

My husband’s ex-wife sold the house they had together, and over the past few weeks some things have been slowly making their way to our house. My husband has done a great job keeping me in the loop about what’s coming home, so there wouldn’t be any surprises. And there haven’t been … until last Sunday.

My stepson’s futon which was put into his dad’s truck to be hauled off as trash, arrived at our house to be put in his room. We usually have discussion about these sorts of things, however, this discussion happened while it was sitting in the truck at our house. Net, net, we want him to feel as at home as possible, so we agreed that he could keep it here.

It’s a microfiber futon, and it was showing its use. The very night before, I had seen someone pin how to clean microfiber couches on Pinterest. I love how things work out!

You need rubbing alcohol, a spray bottle and a scrub sponge. Check this blog post out for more details and FAQs.

Here’s the “Before” shot. I started with the corner just to see if it would work.

And it totally did! I couldn’t believe how easily the gunk came off/out of it.

Okay, and just so you know what a total freakazoid I am, here’s a before and after shot of the sponge I used to clean it. I felt great satisfaction that I could see the efforts.

The sponge on the left is what the sponge on the right looked like when I started cleaning the futon.

I want to thank whoever originally pinned this blog post to Pinterest, but I want to REALLY thank Chris & Robin over at “Chris & Robin’s Nest” for blogging about this back in 2010.

Happy Cleaning!

My Erin Condren Life Planner

Someone that I follow on Twitter tweeted about her Erin Condren Life Planner. I’m a nut for organization systems … Daytimer, Franklin Covey Planner … so I had to go check it out. I’ve gone away from what I would term traditional organization systems in recent years in favour of my iPhone, but something about the Erin Condren Life Planner caught my eye.

I love that I could design my own cover. She has A LOT of covers to choose from. Some of the choices give you the option to upload pix of your family to include on the cover as well.

Erin Condren Life Planner

I customized my cover by choosing the colors I wanted and adding my initials.

The entire Life Planner is colourful, which I love! One thing that really drew me to this design was the amount of space you’re given on the Month-at-a-Glance page. I never felt like I had enough room to write in the other planners. And, at the top of each month, there’s a positive quote … July’s is “Every morning is a new beginning, a new chance to rewrite the story of your life.” ~ Tina Su

Love that!

Erin Condren Life Planner - Month At A Glance

You can include monthly goals and your “to do” list.

Again, with colour! The month tabs are big, colourful AND laminated! Huge pluses for me.

Erin Condren Life Planner - Month Tabs

I’m sure it’s my age showing, but I love how easy it is to read the tabs.

She includes fun, colourful stickers so you can mark important dates in your calendar — birthdays, vacations, doctor appointments. Also, in the Life Planner is this bound-in zip lock pocket, and she includes a couple of customized stickers and some generic gift stickers for you to try. A very thoughtful touch, and a good marketing approach to possibly entice you to try some of her other products.

Lastly, there is a “keep it together” pocket folder. I put a few things in so you can quickly get the general idea. It is made out of cardstock, however, I am curious as to how it’s going to wear over the next year.

Erin Condren Life Planner - Pocket Page

Being a wife, mom, and stepmom in a very active family, I’m curious as to how it’s going to hold up over the next year. But right now, I’m so excited to have it and to start using it! I’m just a nerd that way.

If you can believe it, there are women who have made YouTube videos about their Life Planners. I checked out a couple before I decided to purchase mine. Just head out to YouTube and search for “Erin Condren Life Planner”.

By the way, I don’t know Erin Condren, I do follow her on Twitter, but that’s about the extent of it. If you want to check out her site, you can do so at Also, check RetailMeNot for available coupon codes. I did and saved $5 when I ordered. AND when my Life Planner arrived, I received a $10 off offer code for my next order. Good stuff!

We had The Fresh Market open in our city recently, and I’ve been excited to go in and check it out. I had the chance on Tuesday to pop in to get a few things for dinner. I was excited to find some salsa from Texas!

After living in Texas for 20 years, I am spoiled for good Tex Mex food. I ran across Clint’s Texas Salsa … and oh my gosh! It is so good! Highly, highly recommend it.

Trust me. I’m from Texas.

Love ya!

Attic Conversion

“I have a walk-in attic!”

“I have a walk-in atti!”

“I have a walk-in attic!”

This was part of my happy dance when I closed on my house 2 years ago. I had waited so long to have a walk-in attic. I used to slightly covet walk-in attics. In the past, I dreaded hauling stuff UP and DOWN the attic ladder in the garage, especially during summer. But, now, I can walk into the attic from the gameroom! Thank you, Jesus! You know, it really is the small things.

Or A LOT of things, as you can see. I feel a bit exposed by showing you my mess, but, hey, we’re all friends here, right? Right? Box springs, tubs of things I’m sure I have to hold onto for one reason or another.

Walk In Attic

My love affair with the attic almost ended when my husband and I became engaged six months after I moved into my house. We had to figure out how to make room for his two children. I had one room available, but needed another. We could use the gameroom, but that might have caused a slight problem with my two sons. No need add fuel to any potential flame, so the option of conveting the attic came up. It made sense to convert it for my husband’s daughter as it’s a bit removed from the three boys. I didn’t even tear up at the idea. I was happy we had a solution.

I had visions of working with her & her dad to decorate it, letting her totally pick what she wanted. Well, let’s just say that that didn’t happen. It’s still an attic.

The attic conversion is still on the to-do list, but into more of a guest room/office/craft room. We all need one of those. I’ve been pinning some ideas over on Pinterest if you’d like to check them out.

Have you done an attic conversion? If so, would you do it again? What would you do differently?

No More Raccoon Eyes

Taking off your make-up at night is one of best things you can do for your skin. There was a time when I couldn’t find anything to take my eye make-up completely off, and not leave my eyes feeling greasy.

I’ve tried a lot of different eye make-up removers out there. Sorry, Clinique fans, I know a lot of you swear by their products, but they just don’t get my mascara off completely. Even Clinique brand mascara. Can you say, “Raccoon eyes in the morning”?

These two products have worked for me every time and they are great for contact wearers … Kiehl’s Extremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover,

Kiehl's Eye Make-up Remover

Kiehl’s Eye Make-Up Remover

And this one … Make Up For Ever Sens’Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Make-up Cleanser.

Hope you try ’em out. And, just so you know, I’m just sharing information here. These companies don’t know me from Eve.

Love ya!
